School Calendar: We follow a traditional school calendar with the exception to taking off the week of Thanksgiving, and two two-week vacations during the winter holiday and in the spring.

Class Size: There is one class per grade level with approximately 20 students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade.  The Kindergarten and First Grade classes are taught by two full-time fully credentialed co-teachers, whereas Second through Fourth Grade classes have a full-time teacher and half-day assistant.  There are two sections of Fifth Grade with approximately 15 students per section.

Curriculum: The classroom teacher is responsible for instructing the students in reading, writing, math and social studies.  Although the teachers integrate many of the following subjects into their core curriculum Crane students are fortunate to have teachers who specialize in the areas of Spanish, science, art, music, drama, physical education, character education, and computer and library skills.  These classes meet one to three times a week depending on the subject area and grade level.

School Principles: The following principles are emphasized daily: 1) be kind to others, 2) concentrate in class, and 3) do the assigned work.

Report Cards/Conferences: In January and June, Lower School students receive progress reports that include comments from both the classroom teacher and each of the specialists.  Parent-teacher conferences are held twice a year.

Field Trips: At various times throughout the year, field trips supplement the curriculum.

Community Service: The students in each grade are involved in some kind of community service appropriate for their specific grade level.

Lunch: Hot lunch is provided for a nominal charge each Monday and Friday.  Children bring their own lunches Tuesday through Thursday.  Candy, gum, and sodas are not permitted.

Daycare: Daycare is provided Monday through Friday from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m.  Fees are $7 an hour, and billing is monthly.

Discoveries: Weekly after school workshops offer students the opportunity to participate in a variety of studies and activities, from 3:15-4:30 p.m. Past examples include: oceanography, cooking, yoga, sewing and chess.  The cost of each workshop is $100 for each eight-week session.

Parents for Crane (PFC): All parents are automatically members of this invaluable support group for Crane.  There are many opportunities to participate in the life of the school. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, October through May, at 8:15 a.m.

Special Celebrations: Every year there are a number of traditional events that occur such as Music Hour, the Winter Holiday Program, Grandparents Day, the 100th Day of School, Spring Study Week, and dramatic presentations.

Spring Study Week: Each spring, students in the Lower School participate in a weeklong study of a particular culture or time period.  Immersed in the subject, students attend cross-age workshops that involve all areas of the curriculum.

Homework Club: Students in grades three through five can receive homework support each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons from 3:00–4:00 p.m. in the library.
