Medical Forms: California State Law requires that children attending school be completely immunized against dyptheria, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, polio, measles, mumps and rubella. In addition, all students are required to have 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine and 2 doses of MMR. All Pre-First students require the varicella vaccine for chicken pox, if they have not already had the disease. Also, any new student from out-of-state or out-of-country will require this immunization, if they have not already had the disease. Prior to a child's first day of school at Crane, medical certification of these immunizations must be on file in the Office together with a physician's report of physical examination.
Emergencies: The Disaster Form submitted to the school each year indicates who should be called in the event of an emergency when parents cannot be reached. The Medical Consent Form provides the school with the name of the family doctor. Any changes in this information must be promptly communicated to the Office.
Minor Injuries: School personnel will routinely treat minor cuts and bruises. First aid kits are located in each Lower School classroom, the Field House and the Office. During field trips and trip week, the teacher carries a first aid kit and emergency medical forms. Every precaution is taken to ensure the safety of the children both on-campus and off-campus.
Medications: All prescribed medications should be left at the Office with written directions as to dosage and times to administer. Children should not bring medications with them to class.
Communicable Diseases: A child who is unusually tired or shows symptoms of being sick should be kept at home. This may prevent a longer absence and protect classmates if illness develops. When a child has a contagious disease, it must be reported at once, and the child should not return to school until the contagious period has passed. When a contagious disease occurs in a class, families of children exposed will be notified by the school.
Student Accident Insurance: Crane Country Day School provides a student accident insurance policy for each child at Crane. The policy is offered by IS/IT Claims and underwritten by Commercial Travelers Mutual Insurance Company. The policy covers injuries that occur while on the school premises; while away from the school premises including athletics and field trips; while commuting to or from your residence and the school; and while traveling to or from any school-sponsored activity in a school-authorized vehicle. The policy provides partial coverage for reasonable and customary expenses incurred for necessary medical, dental, or hospital care in the amount up to $30,000, with a $100 deductible. The plan is limited to that part of the expenses, if any, which is in excess of the total benefits payable for the same loss under any other insurance plan. For students who do not have insurance coverage through any other source, the program provides first dollar coverage. In addition, the Catastrophic Plan Rider covers up to $1,000,000 of excess coverage per student, per accident, with a $30,000 deductible. Families may purchase the 24-hour supplemental coverage at their own expense.
