6th Grade:
Physical science: laws of motion and simple machines; designing and building roller coasters and catapults; reporting weekly on science in the news; research of the life and work of a famous scientist.
Life science: six kingdoms of living things (Animal, Plant, Protist, Fungi, Eubacteria, Archaebacteria); designing experiments using the scientific method.
7th Grade:
Physical chemistry principles; quantitative analysis of substance (boiling point, density, melting point); scientific interpretation of data; designing, building, and testing various devices (model skyscraper, sailboat, water turbine, airplane wing) with a focus on applied science and engineering.
8th Grade:
Preparation for the field trip to Bahia de los Angeles, including an overview of oceanography and biological and physical laboratory activities; general chemistry; writing formal lab reports based on experiments; biological chemistry including a review of biologically significant molecules, nutrition, cellular functions, and Mendelian genetics; astronomy.
