Independent Art Project and Presentation

i@pp Art Projects

The eighth grade i@pp "Independent Art Project and Presentation" project is designed to balance the educational power of student choice with experiential art. Each eighth-grade student chooses an area in the arts that they are interested in learning about. It is their responsibility to research this topic, propose their own course curriculum and schedule, create a work of art in that form, journal their experiences, and present their art to their class and the public. With the power of choice in what and how they learn, students work harder, delve deeper, and retain more knowledge.

Upon completion of their projects, students learn about critique and review each other's work. Accompanied with a self portrait, they write an essay describing their goals, process, and experiences. They then exhibit their work to the school and extended community.
