Extended Community

Crane's "family" extends beyond current families to current grandparents, alumni, past parents, past grandparents, and former staff and faculty. We try to stay connected with these various constituencies in multiple ways on an annual basis.

Staying connected with alumni is so important to the success and history of the school. Young alumni provide valuable feedback and older alumni keep us connected to our historical roots. All alumni hold a special place in our hearts and our 90th anniversary celebrations were an opportunity to reach out to everyone that has created Crane's past.

All alumni receive the biannual On Campus newsletter where recent news, including alumni news, is highlighted. In addition, everyone receives the Annual Report which includes news articles alongside a listing of all financial contributors for the year.

Our recent alumni (current high school and college students) have at least one contact a year from a current Crane class, the most popular being the third grade/college freshmen project. Each third grader chooses a college freshman to write a personal letter to which is enclosed in a care package with homemade treats made by the third graders in the Crane kitchen.

In addition, there is a reunion for high school seniors and the years marking their 10, 15, and 20-year Crane graduations.

Currently, the school also has 15 Crane alumni who are now parents to 21 current Crane students.

Past Parents

Past Parents are an important constituency at Crane School. Many of them spent countless hours helping Crane with various events and projects, so reunions in their honor are a fun way to reconnect with staff and faculty and each other. These events are typically held off-campus during the months of February and March.

Grandparents for Crane

Grandparents for Crane was founded in 2015 by past parent and current grandmother Gail P. O'Brien. The role of this organization is to support the school in a variety of ways--attending events, volunteering on campus, and supporting financial endeavors including Annual Fund and the Spring Benefit. A digital Grandparents for Crane newsletter is sent bimonthly via email.

The annual Grandparents & Special Friends Tea is hosted every January.

Volunteer opportunities include: Wednesday Grandparent Reader series, Monday vegetable harvest from the Crane gardens, and Monday/Friday Hot Lunch preparation and service.
