Crane School’s 11-acre campus is most definitely a highlight for those who visit. The balance of nature and buildings, and the natural flow as one moves through campus is welcoming and enchanting. Students, parents, and Staffulty (staff and faculty) can all agree that the campus is thoughtfully designed and carefully maintained. When asking Staffulty about their favorite spot on campus, the vast majority name an outdoor space, but as there are so many to choose from, they don’t all share the same favorite. They can all pinpoint just what it is that makes it their favorite:
“Walking through Crane’s amazing garden is the best way to start my day. It’s a beautiful reminder to take in the beauty that’s all around us.

“The big redwood tree. It smells amazing and provides a magical space for contemplation.
“My favorite at the moment is the side patio outside the Upper School math classrooms--it’s a hidden gem, but then there are so many on campus.”

While there are many favorite outdoor spaces on campus, there are a few recurring themes that tie them all together. They all have peaceful, community-building, and playful elements.
As we transition many of our classes outdoors as recommended by health officials, students are stepping into 23 different tranquil, natural, and playful outdoor learning spaces scattered around the Crane property. What a gift to call the redwood tree canopy, the Oak Grove, and the Acorn Arena your outdoor classroom. These spaces will add a little magic to students’ learning and creativity. As a community we are certainly gaining an even greater appreciation for the expansive outdoors at Crane School.
